In 2018 the Trump/Pence regime instituted its “zero tolerance” policy against immigrants on the border, leading to at least 4,300 children being separated from their parents. The heartbreaking images of children locked up in cages shocked and outraged people around the world. Now, a draft report by the Justice Department's inspector general makes it even more clear how deliberate this monstrous move was.1 In a conference call with five U.S. attorneys along the border with Mexico, Jeff Sessions, the head of the Justice Department at that time, told the prosecutors, “We need to take away children… If care about kids, don’t bring them in” (according to notes taken by participants in the call). Sessions is talking about kids (and parents) fleeing horrible violence and poverty in Central America and seeking asylum in the U.S. A week later, Sessions’s henchman, Rod Rosenstein, told the prosecutors it didn’t matter how young the children were, including infants. When these prosecutors raised questions, Sessions and Rosenstein, shut them down. The head of Homeland Security at the time voted against it; but when the crunch came, she got on TV and announced it with full support.
When these fascist ghouls talking about “caring” for children (as a cover for forcing women to bear children against their will), they’re talking about white, Christian children. You can also see this in how immigrant women at an ICE detention center were forced to undergo hysterectomies.2
This shit is genocidal. It must be STOPPED now.
